Guides / Standards Check
The ADI Standards Check: a complete guide
Every working driving instructor takes a Standards Check at least every 4 years. It uses the same 17 competencies, grade bands and risk rule as Part 3.
What's the same as Part 3
A client-centred lesson of about 45 minutes with about 40 minutes of driving, 17 competencies scored 0 to 3, 31โ42 for Grade B, 43โ51 for Grade A, and an automatic fail for 7 or less in risk management.
What's different
DVSA invites you, normally to your local test centre. You must show your ADI registration certificate. DVSA offers an engagement call beforehand. Three fails removes you from the register.
The 17 competency guides apply in full.
Want the full picture? The 17 Competencies explains every competency on the form, with a rehearsal drill for each. Or score your last lesson free.
