ADI Part 3: the end-of-lesson reflection
The form asks: Was the pupil encouraged to reflect at the end?
At the end, the pupil reflects honestly on their performance and feelings, and you help turn that into a next step. GOV.UK allows up to 3 minutes. DVSA says a bare "score yourself out of ten" is meaningless.
What earns marks
- Honest self-assessment by the pupil
- Helping them spot what they missed
- A balanced overview if they can't give one
- A clear plan for practice before next time
What loses marks
- No reflection, or a token one
- Accepting an unrealistic self-review
- Scaling with no follow-up
- Running out of time
The common mistake: Arriving at the test centre with 30 seconds left. Finish driving a few minutes early so the reflection is real.
