The 17 Competencies

Guides / Trainee licence

Trainee licence: option 1 vs option 2

Option 1 means being supervised for 20% of the lessons you give. Option 2 means at least 20 hours of extra training. You choose one when you apply and can't change.

Option 1: supervision

Your sponsoring ADI supervises 20% of all lessons you give while you hold the licence, recorded on form ADI 21S, signed by you both.

Option 2: extra training

At least 20 hours of extra training on the training programme topics, completed within 3 months of getting the licence and before you book Part 3, recorded on form ADI 21AT. If you fail Part 3, or don't book it within 3 months, you need 5 more hours each time.

GOV.UK suggests talking to your sponsoring ADI or training organisation about which suits you.
