ADI Part 3: appropriate and timely feedback
The form asks: Was feedback appropriate and timely?
The pupil should know how they're doing all lesson. Feedback should be specific, honest and close to the event. If a pupil gives themselves a glowing review despite real risks, you need to add balance.
What earns marks
- Responding to the pupil's questions and comments
- Confirming progress and explaining how to improve
- Feedback consistent with your body language
What loses marks
- Feedback too late to link to the event
- A lack of honesty or balance
- Overlooking a safety-critical incident
- Constant feedback that distracts
The common mistake: "Good" on repeat. Name exactly what improved and ask how it felt.
