The 17 competencies / Teaching and learning strategies / Competency 15
ADI Part 3: following up the pupil's questions
The form asks: Were the pupil's questions answered?
Encourage questions all lesson, and answer every one. If a question comes at a bad moment while driving, ask the pupil to hold it, and then make sure you come back to it.
What earns marks
- A lesson where questions are welcome
- Full answers, or pointing to a good source
- Checking when body language suggests a question
- Helping the pupil find answers themselves
What loses marks
- No encouragement to ask
- Forgetting a question
- Inaccurate or incomplete answers
- Dodging the question
The common mistake: "We'll come back to that", then never doing so. Keep a mental list of parked questions and clear it before the end.
