ADI Part 3 car rules
Your car must be taxed, have a current MOT and be insured for an ADI Part 3 test. Check the full rules on GOV.UK the week before.
The main requirements
- Working rear seatbelts, which must be used, and rear head restraints if the car is designed for them.
- L plates (or D plates in Wales) if your pupil is a learner.
- Smoke-free before and during the test.
- No soft-top convertibles or cramped "2+2" cars.
Manual or automatic
With a manual licence you can use either. With an automatic-only licence, the car must be automatic. Taxis and private hire vehicles can be used if they meet the rules.
